  • Well, The best way to keep your indoor air clean is to keep pollutants out. ƒ Air out new items before you bring them into your house. This includes things like: vinyl products like shower curtains, furniture, carpet, dry cleaning.
  • ƒ Clean with simple products like white vinegar, baking soda, oil soap and water.
  • ƒ VOCs are the harmful gases that many products give off. If you must purchase a toxic product, buy low odor, low VOC, or no VOC and buy only the amount you expect to use.
  • ƒ Open the windows to reduce indoor pollution levels.
  • ƒ Close the windows when outdoor air pollution levels are high than normal.
  • Mix equal part of powdered sugar and baking soda or borax.
  • Set the mixture out in a small dish to help eliminate cockroaches.
  • Wash your pet with lots of soapy water to brown fleas instead of using chemical sprays.
  • Buy pure beeswax furniture polishes and candles.
  • Use natural, untreated fabrics.
  • Use baking soda as an air freshener for refrigerators, garbage cans and carpets.
  • Coat plant leaves with soapy water to kill small insects.
  • Mix 1 tablespoon of vinegar with 1 liter(Quart) of water to make a cleaner for window and floors.

Are air cleaners effective for smoke removal ?

Smoke only outside your home – no air-cleaning device will stop the health risk from second-hand smoke.

If the usual methods of addressing indoor air pollution are insufficient, air-cleaning devices( air purifiers ) may be helpful. Air filters and air purifiers are designed to remove pollutants from indoor air.
Some are installed in the pile of the central heating or ventilation system of the house, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system to clean the air in the whole house(Whole house air purifiers).

Portable room air purifiers can be used to clean the air in a single room or in specific areas, but they are not intended to filter the air in the whole house with large space. Air purifier devices are categorized by the type of pollutants—particulate and gaseous—that the device is designed to remove or destroy.

Air Purifier and Your Health

Before you go to  buy an air purifier , you should try these things first:

  • ƒ Vacuum with a HEPA filtered vacuum cleaner or use a micro-filtration or allergen vacuum bag.
  • ƒ Vacuum more than twice a week in the bedroom and  more then once a week in other areas, including cloth covered furniture.
  • ƒ Dust more than once a week.ƒ
  • Wash sheets and blankets every week with the hot water.
  • ƒ Keep humidity levels under 50%.
  • ƒ Replace the furnace filter more regularly with a pleated filter.

Using an air purifier will not cut down on the need to clean your home.
