Blueair 403 air purifier review

The Blueair 403 air purifier gets you the most bang for your buck by maximizing clean air delivery in mid-size rooms up to 365 square feet. Independently tested by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) for Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR), the Blueair 403 has a rating of 240 cubic feet per minute for smoke, dust, and pollen with a superior 5 air changes an hour. Blueair 403 air purifier is whisper-silent on low and delivers designed white noise on higher speeds by using a double-suction radial fan to balance sound frequency making it more pleasing to the ear.

Blueair’s patented HEPASilent technology uses both electrostatic and mechanical filtration to trap 99.97% of particles from the air down to 0.1 microns in size. The technology works by charging harmful particles as they pass through the encapsulated ion particle-charging chamber of the air purifier, successfully locking in particles large and small into the unique filter design.

The Blueair 403 air purifier comes with a timer to alert you when your filter needs changing. The timer can be attached to the unit, refrigerator, or anywhere else. Simply open the door on the front of your Blueair 403 air purifier unit to change the filter. Blueair 403 air purifier review

Not very effective at removing dust, smoke, and pollen at its lowest speed, which could affect your comfort if you’ll run the unit in your bedroom at night. Especially effective at removing dust, smoke, and pollen at its highest speed, important quickly cleaning the air in the room. Runs very quietly on its lowest speed. Noisy, but average for air purifiers run on their highest speed. Somewhat easy to operate its controls. Energy Star qualified, meaning it’s relatively energy-efficient compared with non-qualified models. Has a carrying handle. Relatively high annual costs, which includes routine filter replacement (if any) and annual operating costs. Relatively high filter costs. Relatively high operating costs. Has a filter indicator, which lets you know when it’s time to change/clean the main filter. Includes an ionizer but produces no significant ozone.

Impressive at removing dust, smoke, and pollen from a room’s air when run at its highest speed, but not very effective at low speed. This model runs very quietly on its lowest speed but was somewhat noisy (though average) on its highest speed. Somewhat easy to operate its controls, carry it, and clean or replace its filter(s).

Overall score for the Blueair 403 air purifier is mainly how well the model removed dust and smoke from a test chamber, plus quietness for room purifiers and airflow resistance for whole-house units.
Dust/pollen/smoke removal: How well models cleared air of fine clay dust and cigarette smoke; performance of portables is at their highest and lowest speeds. Ones that scored well for dust removal should perform comparably for pollen.
Noise: Based on instrument measurements with a portable model running at its highest and lowest speeds.
